Built in 1844 by Augustin-Norbert Morin, the founder of Sainte-Adèle,
along with his companion Onizime Lamoureux, the Morin house took on many
roles over the years. Augustin-Norbert Morin married Adèle Raymond
but unfortunately they had no descendants. He named the town of Ste-Adèle
after her.
It was the only place of worship for the colonists because at that time,
there was no church. Abbot Amable Thibeault even installed a Way of
the Cross in the living room on the 2nd May 1848 with the permission of Mgr Bourget.
After that, the house became the colonists' alms house as well as a pharmacy run by doctor Lachaine, a close friend of Augustin-Norbert Morin.
On his death in 1865, the house was transferred to his companion Onizime Lamoureux
who in turn left it to his descendants.
Over the years, the house was somewhat neglected and little by little fell into disrepair. It was at the end of the nineties when Gérald Gagné, who at the time worked for a well known banking institute, was inspired by this historic residence and saw many possibilities.
After long negotiations, he acquired the property and undertook major renovations while respecting and restoring the hidden treasures of the original house.
Today, Morin house is a bed and breakfast where you can rediscover the ambiance of bygone days with all modern comforts.
